On December 2, 2022, a grand Christmas party attended by about 80 members and their families was held at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Takahashi offered his congratulations on Canada’s 155th anniversary.

He also mentioned that Sendai Ikuei Gakuen, which has sister school partnerships with many Canadian schools, had opened a new school in Tome City̶the Towa Keisetsu School Building̶to serve as a hub for international educational activities, and expressed his hopes for further exchange between Canada and Japan.

Unlike in previous years, the party was held in a seated format to prevent COVID infections, but this first party in three years nevertheless proved an occasion for deepening friendships among the participants.

Santa Claus greeted guests at the reception desk! Although no gift drawing was held in the interest of preventing the spread of infections, the novelty of choosing gifts together with Santa Claus made the party exciting even before it had officially gotten underway. All the guests were able to receive presents thanks to the cooperation of numerous member companies, and we would like once again to express our sincere appreciation.
The guests also enjoyed an early Christmas celebration with Canadian wines and meals made with Canadian produce.

The Maple Pavilion was opened in Yuriage, Natori City in 2013 as a “Canada Tohoku Reconstruction Project” following the Great East Japan Earthquake with donations from the Canadian federal government, the provincial governments of British Columbia and Alberta, and Canada Wood, a Canadian lumber industry association. An event will be held this May to commemorate the Pavilion’s tenth anniversary.

This will be a rare opportunity to experience the depth of the ties between Tohoku and Canada and feel the enduring affection for this facility as a symbol of recovery, and we encourage all our members to come visit.
